Since 1971 over $200 billion dollars has been spent on the fight against cancer and the death rate has declined only slightly. We lose approximately 1,500 cancer fighters a day just in the United States alone, that’s almost 550,000 people a year. The big problem here is that most of the cancer research money is spent to figure out the cause of cancer and not the treatment of cancer. BikerMonkey, again, has joined forces with The Gateway for Cancer Research, an organization with a goal to speed up research from the laboratory to the bedside and do it now. They have funded 71 studies to the tune of $20 million over almost a 20 year period and $.99 of every dollar received goes to facilitate cancer research on treatment and not the cause.
This BikerMonkey ride is different than the previous two we have done. First of all, you can earn two certificates this time, rather than just the Iron Butt Association certification. That’s right, your registration of $50.00 as a rider or $25.00 as a passenger will get you a BikerMonkey T-Shirt on the morning of September 22 and qualify you once you successfully completed the ride a BikerMonkey certificate and rider’s pin! Of the gross proceeds, 50% will be donated on your behalf to The Gateway for Cancer Research and 10% of the net proceeds will be going to the Big Guy’s house..
This ride will also qualify you for a SaddleSore 2,000 certification, however, this is an additional $50.00; which is IBA’s cost for processing not ours. If you choose to qualify for the SaddleSore 2,000, then simply include this payment with your registration and we will take care of all of the paperwork for you and submit it on your behalf. You will in turn receive the IBA certification, pin and IBA backplate once IBA has qualified the ride details.
Let’s recap shall we? We are talking for $100.00, you get….. a very cool BikerMonkey T-Shirt (specific to this ride), 2 certifiicates, 2 riding pins and a license backplate. Or for $50.00, you get…. a very cool BikerMonkey T-Shirt (specific to this ride), a certifiicate and a riding pin. Either way you go, you get awesome fellowship with some crazy extreme biker peeps, bragging rights that you road to the Grand Canyon and back for a weekend and self satisfaction that you have helped a great cancer research group work towards the cure for cancer!
